The weather was great all weekend in the high 80’s with little to no humidity. We had 35 golfers take part in Monday’s One & Done Tournament hosted by Jason Coef and the FSW gang. We played to set a new course record on 28 holes (27 blues plus the field hole across the street) using only 1 disc. If you were to lose your disc or somehow break it, you would be eliminated from the tournament although we were fortunate to not see this happen.
We had 3 in the ladies division and Miss Anne won with a blue buzzz in 97 throws. We had a begginers division and Ken takes it down with a 97. The largest field was in the Intermediate division where Terry Ruth beat out 11 others with a 74. We only had 4 guys in the Advanced division and it was Glenn Funkhouser taking it down in 76 strokes. Andy King sure likes his new Discraft Ace Race disc and he won the Masters division by 5 strokes with it shooting a 75.
Jake Azato was a favorite coming into the day after posting earlier in the week of a -16 from the 18 Blues with his Nova putter. However Jake and TD Jason Coefer settled for a second place tie at -14. Congratulations to our Labor Day One & Done pro winner, Stu Kaplan. Stu set the current course record for 28 holes with one disc at -17 using a blue Innova XD.
CTP’s on 1, 18 and across the street were won by Jake, King and Caleb. We had $105 in the Ace Pot and no one hit it so the winner was determined by Ring of Fire. After a few attempts it was Venose’ disc remaining in the bucket of 18 and making him the big money winner of the day.
During the event you could smell Rome’s ribs all the way from hole #5 and once we were all ‘Done’ from our ‘One’ we were treated by the FSW kitchen Crew to a taco bar with chicken and pork.
Special Thanks to Jason Coef for taking the initiative to put together what turned out to be a great day and a fun event enjoyed by all. The bar has been set at -17 and this should be a regular challenge held at least once a year moving forward seems to be the general consensus. Stu K, Andy, Anne, Rome and anyone who helped with registration or scoring we thank you. Bush, Grizz, Anne and anyone who helped with food or just made a nice donation, thank you. These fine folks raised $160 for the club. Great efforts, guys!
Don’t forget this Saturday! We will have our monthly Volunteer workday from 9 – 12. There’s a lot of trash around the course lately and it would be great to get some good workers to help with that as well as some trimming and possibly a teepad. Shout out to Stu Straw who has been repairing an old riding mower and mowing fairways!
Paid to Play – Registration for the Annual Milk the Goat tournament will open at noon with a 1pm start time. This is a fun event and great for everyone. It is free to play and if you complete 2 rounds from the short original Sedgley blue layout you will be paid $1 for your efforts by the Old Goat himself. We will be accepting disc and prize donations to award for CTP’s. Pizza Party Hosted by the Friends of Sedgley Woods.
