For the 2nd stop of the Mr. Disc Golf tour, Mike Solt returns to Sedgley Woods on Saturday February 27th to host the End of Winter Fest in the Woods. This is a PDGA C-Tier event. This event has filled to capacity. The course will not be closed to the public, however expect it to be very crowded on this day for casual play. Tags will be cancelled this day and the next day (Sunday 2/28) is the February Monthly and the last day of the month for February points.
The leftover snow from the blizzard of ‘16 didn’t hinder a thing at Sedgley Woods for the January Nice Bowl Monthly and Chili Cook Off. Sunny skies, light wind and a high temp in the 40’s made for an awesome day of disc golf and cook off competition with friends. Not to mention we raised a lot of food for our Senior Citizen neighbors of Strawberry Mansion!
We had 30 competitors in 3 divisions take on the original Sedgley blues for the first round. John Bradway took a commanding lead coming into the clubhouse with a hot 13 down. Josh Cro lead the AM field by 5 strokes and Sueper held a few stroke lead on the ladies.
As the cards came in, Anne and Andy were busy getting the Chili entries heated up and ready for tasting. We had more participants than ever before and it seemed everyone used quality ingredients because there wasn’t a bad chili in the bunch. Very special thanks to Miss Anne, Kyle Newton, Joey Muncie, Bobby K, Danielle, Josh Hughes, Viking and Colin Shov for their entrees.
Second place went to Miss Anne winning $25! She pulled out all the stops with with plenty of sides, special chipotle lime sauce and Rogue Chocolate Porter to accompany a really unique and flavorful Chili packed with Ground short ribs, cubed chuck, and chorizo,
However it was Bobby Kielbasa’s Smoked Turkey & Sausage that got the most votes and took down the $75 grand prize. This was Bob’s second Sedgley Chili victory. (He also won the Luau cook off in ‘14)
John Murphy’s 45 in the second round was enough to make the comeback win over Nick O. who shot the hot 2nd round of 41 and JGB who slipped up and fell to 3rd. John Murphy was awarded max points for his win. He joins Aaron Fahey and Nick Knapp at the top of the leaderboard for the 2016 Gold Tag Challenge. Josh Cro crushed the Am division with a total of 95 beating out Viking by 6 strokes. Super took the Ladies division with a total score of 120. Full results here: Nice Bowl Results.
A VERY SPECIAL thanks to David Prue Andy King and Anne for their help in running the monthly. Thank you to everyone who came out and participated. The February monthly will be held on Sunday 2/28 this month. Stay tuned for more information.
